Amsterdam offers an enormous choice of traditional and international places to eat and drink. From canal-side herring and frite (fries) stalls to multi-starred restaurants; from classic brown bars to grand cafés and from pancake houses to little palaces of Indonesian cuisine. Here are a few suggestions:
DAALDER - Neighbourhood restaurant - http://www.daalderamsterdam.nl/en/ - According to Michelin Guide: ‘A former local pub has been successfully transformed into this must-visit venue for foodies. Here, the talented Dennis Huwaë expresses his personal style, creating carefully considered and interesting dishes marked by a constant search for variation and surprise. Excellent value for money.’
FOODHALLEN - International food court - http://foodhallen.nl/ - Located in a magnificent renovated former tram shed in Amsterdam West, Foodhallen boasts 20 stands serving everything from sushi to lobster and Champagne. Delicious snacks from every corner of the globe, drinks to match and a buzzing, sociable ambience.
RON GASTROBAR - Classic with a twist - https://www.rongastrobar.nl/en/ - Chef Ron Blaauw aims for original, delicious food with fascinating flavours, served in an informal setting. This also makes the Gastrobar very good value for money.
TUJUH MARET - Indonesian - http://new.tujuhmaret.nl/?sLang=en – There are as many opinions about where to eat the best rijsttafel (traditional Indonesian ‘rice table’ with many varieties, served buffet style) in Amsterdam as there are Indonesian restaurants. But Tujuh Maret seems to be on everyone’s list, perhaps because it is vegetarian-friendly, family-run and inexpensive.
STUBBE’S HARING – Outdoor herring stand – The best time to eat fresh raw herring is May or June, it is still a great food experience any time of year. You will find great herring carts all over the center of Amsterdam, but Stubbe’s on the Singel canal near Centraal Station is a celebrated stop. Try a delicious broodje (herring sandwich).
PANNENKOEKENHUIS UPSTAIRS – Pancake house - https://upstairspannenkoeken.nl/ - The fluffiest and tastiest Dutch pancakes, served in an historic canalside house described as ‘quaint and quirky’. Delft pottery, Dutch trinkets and antique teapots hang from the ceiling, creating a unique setting for this classic Dutch treat.
CAFÉ T’SMALLE - Brown bar/café - https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/see-and-do/eating-and-drinking/bar-and-cafe-listing/caf-t-smalle. Located on the Prinsengracht canal, opposite the Anne Frank House, T’Smalle offers delicious sweet and savoury snacks, an array of beers, spirits and wines and a rich, traditional atmosphere in equal proportions.
CAFÉ AMERICAIN - Grand café - http://cafeamericain.nl/en - If you like your café on the grand scale, this Amsterdam institution is the right place for you. Opened in 1902, the beautiful art nouveau interior has leaded-glass windows and impressive antique chandeliers. Feast your eyes on splendid artworks and murals while you sip coffee or cocktails and choose from the excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner menu.
MOSSEL EN GIN –Seafood...and Gin! - http://www.mosselengin.nl/ - This restaurant at Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek specialises in mussels and G&Ts, plus oysters, lobster and other maritime delicacies.
PROEFLOKAAL ARENDSNEST - Craft beers - http://www.arendsnest.nl/ – Hundreds of beers are on offer, with many Dutch craft beers featured. And in case you want something different, there are also 40 varieties of gin to try!

Gulbahar Tobacco International (GTI) is one of the main subsidiaries of Gulbahar Group, a consortium of leading companies in cigarette manufacturing, construction, general trading, hospitality, ceramics and pharmaceuticals. We combine industry expertise with innovative technology to deliver quality products and services across the globe. GTI is one of the leading manufacturers of cigarette brands, including Mond, Milano, Cavallo and Momento. Exporting to over 50 countries, we continuously refine our brands to respond to changing consumer demands. From super slims to king size, with a variety of filters, flavours and tastes, we package each Gulbahar Tobacco brand to reflect a customer’s chosen lifestyle. From our four main brands, we feel that Milano is the star brand. Its packaging, quality and wide range of products make it a unique brand: “A taste that takes you through the hustling streets and calms of Italy…” We feel Milano really captures the spirit of Italian style. What is the size and scope of the company? GTI has its own manufacturing facilities in the UAE and in Russia, with a focus on promoting, marketing and distributing its cigarette brands. We will be showcasing all four GTI brands, especially Milano. And new for 2019, GTI has come up with some path-breaking and innovative products, including Milano Eject, Cavallo Clip & Go and Momento Move. These Fan Packs have nano size cigarettes with a double capsule and a single capsule in the filter. That's a first in its market segment. Amsterdam's centre is fairly small and quite flat, so you can easily get to most tourist destinations on foot for instance from the train station, within half an hour. Below are the options for travelling to and around the city centre: Prices were correct at the time of publication, but please check online for the latest costs.
By Taxi – An official Amsterdam Airport Taxi will take around 15-20 minutes to the city centre. The taxi should charge around 39€. More luggage, late-night journeys and public holidays will incur an extra charge. Licensed cabs are not all identical, but they do all have roof lights and blue number plates. During busy periods you will probably have to queue to get a taxi.
By Train – Trains from the airport (Platforms 1, 2 and 3, one floor below the airport terminal), take around 20 minutes to get you to the centre of Amsterdam. Tickets cost around 5.40E. They run from 06:00 to 01:00. Trains go to the central Amsterdam terminal up to 10 times an hour. The Intercity Direct is non-stop and has better luggage provision.
By Bus – Buses from outside the airport take around 35 minutes to reach the city centre. The tickets cost 5€. Buses run from 05:00 to 00:30. Bus 397 from platforms B9, B11 or B13, at Schiphol Plaza, just outside the main station hall. Note – the bus terminates at Amsterdam Elandsgracht and not Amsterdam Central.
By Public Transport – Amsterdam’s public transport system uses an electronic card called the OV-chipkaart. There are two main types of OV-chipkaart that are useful for visitors: “personal” cards can be used only by their pictured owner, while “anonymous” cards can be used by anyone. The personal and anonymous cards are both valid for up to five years. They cost 7.50€ and can be loaded and reloaded with up to 50€ worth of travel.
Reduced-rate cards are available for seniors and children. Electronic readers on Metro and train station platforms and onboard trams and buses will subtract the correct fare—you simply hold the card up against the reader at both the start and the end of the ride. These cards are valid in Amsterdam and all over the country.
Another option for visitors who plan to use public transport a lot is a 1-day or a multiday card from GVB: They are available in the following denominations: 24 hours (7.50€), 48 hours (12€), 72 hours (17€), 96 hours (21€), 120 hours (26€), 144 hours (30€), and 68 hours (32€).
GVB Amsterdam is the city’s public transportation company. Their main office GVB Tickets & Info is at Stationsplein, in front of Centraal Station (tel 0900/8011). Visit for timetable and fare information and other customer services, (or check online at: www.gvb.nl). The office is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
In addition, cards are available from GVB and Netherlands Railways ticket booths in the city’s Metro and train stations, ticket machines (automats) at Metro and train stations, and ticket machines on some trams.
Bike Taxi – For greener travel, use a bike taxi or rickshaw to get around the city. They are clean and comfortable, and get around the cobbled streets in style. The rickshaws are easy to spot all over the city, but especially around Centraal Station, Leidseplein, Museumplein, and Waterlooplein, or you can order your eco-taxi in advance. Contact Amsterdam Bike Taxi (tel 645/412-725; www.amsterdambiketaxi.info). Charges are 30€ for a 30-minute hire of a rickshaw.
By Tram – The blue-and-grey trams roll through most major streets of the city. There are 16 tram routes, 10 of which begin and end at Centraal Station, so you will always return to that central point if lost. (lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 9, 13, 16, 17, 24, and 26)
The city’s other tramlines are 3, 7, 10, 12, and 14. Lines 3, 5, 12, and 24 are handy for visiting the south of the city around Museumplein. Lines 4, 9, 14, 16, and 24 are best for the city centre.
Trams have a single access door that opens automatically, normally toward the rear; arrows indicate the way to the door. Be aware that tram doors close automatically and quickly! Always remember to place your travel card against the reader when getting on and off the tram. Note: If you don’t use your card as you get off, the charges will continue and it will run out of credit.
By Bus – There is a very good bus service in the city, with many routes begining and terminating at Centraal Station. However the tram, where available, is the faster choice for most journeys.
By Metro – Amsterdam has its own, rather miniature, Metro, with five lines—50, 51, 52, 53, and 54. They travel both over- and underground, mainly carrying commuters in and out of the suburbs. Metro trains run between 6am and midnight every day. Take the Metro from Centraal Station to reach both Nieuwmarkt and Waterlooplein in the old city centre.
By Ferry -- Free GVB ferries (www.gvb.nl) for passengers and two-wheel transportation connect the city centre with Amsterdam-Noord (North), situated across the IJ waterway. Make the short crossings and you get a free mini-cruise with great views of the harbour!
Ferries depart from Waterplein West behind Centraal Station. Check the website for crossing points and times.
By Taxi/Uber – Taxis are available at one of the many taxi stands, mostly near the luxury hotels, or at major squares such as the Dam, Spui, Rembrandtplein, Westermarkt, and Leidseplein, and of course at Centraal Station. Although not identical, all official taxis have rooftop signs and blue license plates, and are metered. Of course there is also Uber here, which claims to be around 35 percent cheaper than the normal taxi for city trips.
Fares are regulated citywide and all cabs are metered; the meter starts at 2.89€ and there is a charge of 2.12€ per kilometer. Fares include a tip, but feel free to give a little more in appreciation for help with your luggage or tourist information.
Join us for this amazing event!

The eighth Exhibition News Awards on 3 April 2015 saw Amsterdam RAI crowned Best International Venue for the second time. The RAI Centre is easy to get to from both Schiphol airport and Amsterdam's city center, with ample parking. Located in the city’s thriving Eastside, the RAI Centre offers a huge range of bars, restaurants and meeting spaces for networking and socializing.
TABEXPO 2019 is designed with networking in mind. The first evening’s Welcome Reception invites you to connect with colleagues and customers old and new. The following evening, our ever-generous sponsor, BMJ, hosts a very special dinner at the RAI Centre. Each exhibiting company will receive two complimentary tickets so that you can be part of a magical evening.
Now more than ever if you want to do business, seal deals and stay abreast of the latest industry developments in tobacco and nicotine, there's only one place to do it all: the One and Only TABEXPO 2019 Amsterdam.
View our most flexible floor plan ever, and select the space and location that fits your needs and your budget.

The who's who of the industry, it’s also a chance to be involved in the critically acclaimed Congress where what’s relevant to the tobacco and nicotine market will be discussed by key people from inside and outside the industry.
